New Zealand has several types of higher education institutions: universities, colleges, private institutions and polytechnics. There are 8 universities in New Zealand, which all offer high quality education. All 8 of these universities are ranked within the QS World University Ranking top 500. The highest ranked is the University of Auckland, which is in 87th place, followed by the University of Otago in 217th place. Students are encouraged to think as an individual and find their own solutions, which is how many develop unique strengths and ideas whilst studying in the country. You are able to study in New Zealand at all of the traditional levels; undergraduate (Bachelor’s) , postgraduate (Master’s) and doctoral (PhD). There are options to gain specific qualifications, such as Graduate Diplomas and Honours.

FAST FACTS ABOUT NEWZEALAND

You can apply Post Study Work Visa if you have recently finished your studies in New Zealand. It allows you to stay and work here for up to 3 years, depending on what you studied.
Work for any employer in any job if you have a degree level 7 or above qualification.
If you are in New Zealand and wish to extend your stay, you must apply for a visa, not an NZeTA.
For 24 months, you must have worked in a Green List Tier 2 role and met your role's Green List requirements.
Work part-time up to 20 hours a week while studying or full-time in the holidays, depending on your visa conditions.
If you want to bring your partner or children with you, they can apply for visas based on their relationship to you.
Your student visa is normally for the same length of time as the study you have paid for.
You need NZD $20,000 to pay your living costs for each year of study.
You must maintain your medical and travel insurance policy while you're studying in New Zealand, from the time you enrol until your visa expires.

Internships

An internship is a temporary position with an emphasis on on-the-job training rather than merely employment, and it can be paid or unpaid. To intern means "to pass inside something," and when you have an internship, it's like you've temporarily gotten permission to be inside a workplace.

Part-time work

An international education can be a strain on a student’s budget. In New Zealand, most students enrolled in a course of 12 months' duration or longer can work part-time for up to 20 hours a week during semester and during holiday periods.

Placements

Placements refer to the temporary job that someone does in an organization, usually to get some work experience. A placement is a bit like an internship, but it is usually a bit longer – usually lasting for a year.
