Types of IELTS Exam

This is the test to take if you are applying for the following types of UK visa: family visa, extension to family, spouse or partner visa as well as indefinite leave to remain or citizenship.

IELTS Modes Of Delivery

Paper-based IELTS Exam

In the paper-based IELTS format, you'll undertake the examination conventionally, seated at a desk equipped with question papers and answer sheets for the Reading, Listening, and Writing tests at an authorized IELTS test centre. Responses must be written using either a pen or HB pencils. The Speaking test will be conducted face-to-face with an accredited IELTS examiner. Your results will be accessible 13 calendar days after the test date.

IELTS on Computer

The Computer-delivered IELTS exam is an alternative format to the traditional paper-based test. It allows you to complete your listening, reading and writing sections on a computer at a certified IELTS test centre. However, the speaking test is conducted in person with an examiner.

IELTS Online

The IELTS Online exam follows the same format as the traditional paper-based and computer-based tests. It can be conducted at home on a PC or laptop with a web cam and a stable internet connection. IELTS Exam dates 2024

Paper-based IELTS test dates in India occur frequently, offering candidates the opportunity to take the exam up to four times per month or 48 (sometimes 49)  times per year. Typically scheduled on Saturdays and Thursdays, this arrangement aims to accommodate the diverse schedules and preferences of test-takers, ensuring accessibility and convenience.

Reading Section

Marking: Each correct answer receives 1 mark. Your final score is given as a band score from 1–9 in whole or half bands, e.g. 6 or 6.5.

In IELTS Academic the material consists of scientific, technical, and intricate texts, covering a spectrum from descriptive and factual to discursive and analytical in nature. The texts are chosen from magazines, journals, newspapers, and books, tailored for individuals aspiring to enrol in universities for higher education.

In IELTS General Training the texts are generally more accessible and relate to everyday experiences and are chosen from brochures, advertisements, magazines, journals, newspapers, and books. They are commonly tailored for individuals looking to move abroad on work visa or family visa.

The types of questions for the Reading Section are the same in both IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training. The sole distinction lies in the varying levels of difficulty.

FAQ’s

Yes, you can request a remark (also known as an Enquiry on Results) of your IELTS exam within six weeks of the test date. There is a fee associated with this service, and the process involves having your test re-marked by trained examiners.

You can take the IELTS exam as many times as you like, but you must wait at least 3 days before retaking the test. There are no limits to the number of times you can take the test in a year.

If you are unable to attend your scheduled IELTS exam for any reason, you may be eligible for a refund or a transfer to a different test date. However, you must provide appropriate documentation to support your request

No, you are not allowed to use any reference materials, including dictionaries, during the IELTS exam. All necessary instructions and materials will be provided to you by the test centre.

You must bring a valid passport or national identity card that you used to register for the test. Additionally, you may want to bring a bottle of water and any medication you may need, as well as pens and pencils for the Writing section.

It is recommended to register for the IELTS exam as early as possible to secure your preferred test date and location. Test centres often fill up quickly, especially during peak testing periods.
